What is Coextruded WPC deck & floor

“Coextruded WPC deck & floor” refers to a type of wood-plastic composite (WPC) flooring/outdoor flooring manufactured by co-extrusion.

Process and materials

WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite): Made by extruding a mixture of wood flour/bamboo flour, plastic (usually PE/HDPE or PVC), and additives.

Co-extruded: A protective layer (usually a polymer engineering plastic such as PE, PVC, or ASA) is extruded onto the surface of a traditional WPC substrate, firmly bonding it to the core layer through a co-extrusion process.

This protective layer is typically 0.5–1.0mm thick and acts as a weather-resistant coating for the floor.

Structural composition

Core Layer: Standard WPC, providing load-bearing and structural support.

Capped Layer: A polymer co-extruded protective layer providing additional water, fade, stain, and abrasion resistance.

Core Advantages

1. Ultra-strong waterproof and moisture-proof: The co-extruded protective layer completely envelops the wood, virtually absorbing no water and expanding.
2. Weather-resistant and UV-resistant: Sun-resistant and fade-resistant, suitable for use in environments with intense sunlight.
3. Mildew and insect-resistant: The wood lacks the pores of natural wood, making it less susceptible to mold and insect growth.
4. Maintenance-free: No regular oiling or painting required.
5. Natural appearance: The surface can be created with realistic wood grain, brushed, or stone patterns.

Applications

Outdoor decking (decking): Villa gardens, poolsides, balconies, and docks.

Outdoor cladding (cladding & fencing): Villa exterior walls and garden fences.

Commercial projects: Hotels, restaurants, and scenic area walkways.

The difference between coextruded WPC and Traditional WPC

Traditional WPC: The entire base material is exposed, making it susceptible to fading and cracking over long-term outdoor use.

Co-extruded WPC: The outer layer provides protection, extending its lifespan (typically with a 10–20 year warranty), and offering greater resistance to sunlight and stains.
